Grateful for the pain.

Feel a mess from time to time… or all the time?   Yep. Life is messy. Ready to feel good anyway?

Here’s the deal: There are two main forms of gratefulness.

The FIRST form is what I think of as Easy Gratitude.  It is when the sun is shining and you think, “Thank you for this beautiful day!” It is when you have a night surrounded by people you love and think, “Thank you for these awesome people in my life.” It is when you get the dream job and think, ” Thank you for this amazing opportunity!”

That gratitude is easy. It is sparked by something good or joyful that is happening in your life. It is easy to be grateful when life feels lovely.

But, it is hard to be grateful when life is messy. And the truth for most of us is that it is messy in some form or another most of the time. So, instead of feeling gratitude for it, we are feeling stress, shame, guilt, overwhelm, and the need to get and do more, more, more.

This means most of us are spending the majority of our life unhappy.

But, all it takes is a shift in thinking to live a life of fulfillment. That shift is a shift towards being focused on gratitude.

So, instead of being focused on what’s wrong, what you wish you had, how you wish things were better, you focus on what’s right with life.

A peak at my messy gratitude list:

I am thankful for this messy house. It means my family has shelter.

I am thankful for all this laundry I have to do. It means my children, my husband, and I have clothes to wear.

I am thankful for these dirty dishes. It means my children ate.
